About

Third edition, 2015
Pages: 265
Publisher: Kirwin Maclean Associates Ltd.
Authors: Siobhan Maclean and Rob Harrison
Language: English;
Size: 2 Mb;

This is the third edition of this popular straightforward guide for social work students.
Written by two experienced practice educators, the book is designed to address the anxieties that many social work students have about social work theory and the way it relates to practice.
The guide provides a straightforward explanation of the major theories used in social work practice. Prompts for reflection about how each theory relates to practice are provided at the end of each chapter.

This edition is fully linked to the revised international definition of social work, HCPC standards and the Professional Capabilities Framework. A new section is included on theories of contexts and organisations and a new chapter on wellbeing theories is also included in this edition.

Siobhan Maclean has been a practice educator for more than twenty years. She has worked with more than 200 students in that time, mostly as an independent off site practice educator.
Siobhan has a keen interest in making theory accessible and has written a range of publications for social workers and students, including the popular Social Work Pocket Guide series.

Rob Harrison has worked in several voluntary sector settings since 1996. He completed the Practice Teaching Award in 2007 and has enjoyed working with several students as both an on site and off site practice educator. Rob is the co-author of a number of books with Siobhan, including the popular “Social Work Theory: A Straightforward Guide for Practice Educators and Placement Supervisors.”
