This Guide has been produced by Gertsure LLP as a learning resource based on the Level 3 Award in the periodic inspection, testing and certification of Electrical Installations and covers the learning outcomes for both EAL and City & Guilds qualifications.
This Guide has been produced to support practicing electricians who wish to increase their skills and knowledge relating to the periodic verification of electrical installations.
It is of particular benefit to students attending or planning to attend courses covering the Level 3 Award in the Periodic inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical installations.
Although there are no formal entry requirements for the Level 3 Award in the Periodic inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations, centres are required to ensure that candidates have the potential and opportunity to achieve the qualification. Students would be expected to have:
- A very good knowledge of BS 7677: 2018: Requirements for Electrical Installations (lET Wiring Regulations Eighteenth Edition) and should preferably have recently completed a course for an allied qualification (such as the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical installations (BS 7677) set by EAL or City & Guilds).
- A good knowledge of inspection and testing practices and should preferably have recently attended an inspection and testing course (such as Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical installations set by EAL or City & Guilds).
- Good written communication skills to allow them to complete an Electrical Installation Condition Report and relay information in a clear, accurate and concise manner that is likely to be understood by the person ordering the work.
