The health and social care sector is an ever changing landscape, and the need for skilled and intuitive managers
to lead and inspire a burgeoning, highly mixed and often peripatetic workforce, has never been greater.

With challenging workloads, unsociable hours and often a physical and psychological toll that is invisible from the
outside, this book strives to provide a helping hand to both aspirant and current senior health and social care
practitioners embarking on the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care.

The book is arranged to mirror the structure of units that are required to be completed within the Diploma. I
have tried to include useful learning material for each of the mandatory units, and some of the commonly chosen
optional units.

There is an additional book by the same author entitled, 'Understanding Autism and Positive Behavioral Support', if learners wish to undertake those units within the Diploma as well.

Understanding the theory is only part of the Level 5 Diploma. Most important of all, is being able to demonstrate
in both your written and actual work practice, that you can translate your understanding into action, and describe real-life examples from your workplace, explaining and evidencing your competence and understanding.

Your assessor or tutor will guide you through your course, help structure your learning and advise you about how
to evidence your competence for the performance-related assessment criteria of the course.

Rather than overload the text, and make the book less accessible and concise, I have added a small guide under the heading 'Apply and Demonstrate' to help with performance-related aspects within each Unit. You will need to refer to your course booklet for the precise wording of the assessment criteria, however.
